Second round of new hydrogen projects will accelerate development of innovative new industry and boost energy security

7 April 2025 - RenewableUK press release

Welcoming the Government’s announcement that 27 hydrogen projects have been shortlisted for the next stage of the second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2), supporting low-carbon hydrogen production in the UK, RenewableUK’s Director of Future Electricity Systems Barnaby Wharton said:

“This is great news as the second round of new hydrogen projects will accelerate the development of an innovative new industry creating jobs all over the country, as well as adding crucial flexibility into our clean power system to strengthen the UK’s energy security.

“Green hydrogen produced using electricity from wind can be stored and used whenever it’s needed, even when the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine, helping the Government to achieve it’s clean power mission”.
